At a very well attended meeting held at the Arundell Arms last night (courtesy of Adam Fox-Edwards) some 48 people agreed to form a Lifton Group to fight the proliferation of Wind Turbines in their local Area.
Mabrake Secretary (David Gynn), opened the meeting by welcoming all present and outlined the agenda for the evening before handing over to the Mabrake Chairman (Dr Gary Vanstone) who spoke on the formation of Mabrake and its work and growth over the past five years. Dr Vanstone explained the necessity of forming a local group in Lifton as Mabrake was under pressure from developments within its own territory. He then went on to outline the work necessary by such a Group to ensure that objections to any Wind Turbine proposal carried sufficient weight to be considered by the Planning Department or in the case of Appeal by the Planning Inspector.
Local MP Geoffrey Cox QC encouraged all present to from a local group, pointing out what Mabrake had achieved over the past five years. He added that people power still carried a lot of weight but that detailed investigation, as outlined by Dr Vanstone, into the siting of such turbines was essential in order for the application to be rejected. He promised to help and support the Group at all stages.
Following the meeting, a committee was formed and further details will be given as and when known.
