Kelly Solar Farm – Planning Application 02517/2012

A Planning Committee meeting took place yesterday at West Devon Borough Council to consider the application to build a Solar Farm at Kelly.

Our Chairman (Dr G Vanstone) spoke and outlined our concerns at the industrialisation of the countryside in this area and pointed out that WDBC should have a policy in place restricting the number of these farm developments that are now springing up. He pointed out that they have nothing to do with farming and are really industrial applications spoiling a beautiful part of West Devon. Already within 3km of the proposed site is another Solar Farm, a approved application for a 3,500 tonne per year processing plant for Green Waste ,a approved application for two medium sized wind turbines and a scoping application for two 220ft Wind Turbines and now a further application for a 8 acre solar farm.

Our local Councillor (Cllr Bob Baldwin) supports these concerns and requested that the committee visit the site and this has been agreed for Thursday 20th September at a time to be agreed.

Following this visit the application will be considered at the next Planning meeting whcih is due to be held on October 9th.
